Archaelogical Museum


 
Presents the historical evolution of Denia from its origins in the Iberian period,
to S. XVIII.

     * Access to the bottom: Stairs next to City Hall is accessible to the castle and the museum is situated on top of it.

     * By car: Avda Cid - C / San Francisco. You enter the castle by car and access to the upper part with it. (Except when there are performances of music or a special event castell).

     * Opening Hours: Located at the top of the Castle of Denia has the same opening it:
       Opening times (daily):
       • Nov / March: 10-13 and 15-18 h.
       • April-May: 10-13,30 and 19 to 15.30 h.
       • June: 16 to 19.30 and 10-13.30 h.
       • July-August: 10-13.30 and 17-20.30 h.
       • September: 10-13.30 and 16-20 h.
       • October: 10-13 and 15-18.30 h.

     * Price: Included in the entrance of the castle.

The balsamario who represents the god Mercury (II century BC), the Islamic collection of bronzes, many from Eastern origin (siglos XI-XII), with representation from the ataifor shed Andalusí Qayrawân from the Tresor de Les Rotes, the fifteenth century, the numismatic collection or Andalusian ceramics produced locally or imported, are the basis for a proposed museum always linked to the sea and the relations between cultures.

Historic Interest:
The building which houses the archaeological museum of the city, dating from the seventeenth century, its construction as a lookout or gallery was part of a leisure and recreation affixed to the temporary palace of the Marquises of Denia. At present still retains the stone chamber and the first floor
The site is 190 m2 and has various stays in the city's development, from its earliest origins to the eighteenth century
Its history and archeology are linked to the activities of the port and the fact it is an essentially commercial city, with its ships in the Mediterranean.
